About
Strategic thinking through the lens of culture.
Marain reads the human and organizational reality of a business before automating it. Technology is the easy part; the judgment around it is the work.
The name
Intelligence, in service of people.
Marain is the shared language of the Culture in Iain M. Banks’s novels — a civilization where vast intelligence exists quietly in service of the people who live alongside it.
That’s the standard we hold for AI: powerful, humane, and on your side — not a spectacle, and never at the expense of the people it’s meant to help.
What we believe
Four principles behind every engagement.
Adoption is the deliverable
A system nobody uses is a failed project, however elegant. We design for the people who have to live with it.
Your data stays yours
Sovereignty isn't just compliance — it's respect. We keep sensitive data in your hands by default.
The right AI, not our favorite AI
Public, private, or hybrid — we choose per workload and can defend the call. No single-vendor religion.
Judgment over hype
We build for durable value — hours saved, risk removed, trust kept — not for the demo.
Who’s behind it
Narendra Nag
Marain is led by Narendra Nag — twenty-five years at the intersection of journalism, digital, and streaming, with a single through-line: measurement. Figuring out what actually drives a business, then building the system that runs on it.
He co-founded a streaming platform-as-a-service that let media companies launch full services in weeks instead of years (acquired in 2023), built a global agency’s digital practice from ten people to over a hundred, and advised multinational companies on growth. He started in journalism — television and print — and launched the first science-and-technology section in a mainstream Indian newspaper.
Today he brings that measurement-first instinct to AI: build the system that actually runs the business, on infrastructure you control — and be honest about what works.
“I’m wrong in public when I’m wrong. That is the whole point.”
